One of our favorite projects has been our collaboration with The Togetherness Project and the incredible weavers of the Pejeng Kangin Village in Bali, Indonesia.
During the COVID19 lockdown, Bali’s tourism industry had a hard hit. Facing economic peril, Ibu Wayan, who worked as a rice farmer, got the idea to revive her ikat weaving and teach other women who lost their jobs to revive their traditional craft as a new path to income.
Ibu Wayan had previously learned to weave ikat when she was just seven years old, and until 2021, her loom and weaving tools were unused for 20 years. 😲 Today, the weavers are back working in their makeshift studio, with clacking looms and laughter signaling a new artisan chapter for the village.
We couldn't be more honored to collaborate with them and are extremely excited for a limited collection of Ethnotek bags featuring their woven masterpieces.
